The
Texas Peace Officers' Memorial |
|
|
|
The Texas
Peace Officers' Memorial is a monument erected on the grounds of the
Capitol Complex to recognize and honor the ultimate sacrifice made
by Texas law enforcement and corrections officers who were killed in
the line of duty. (Sec.
3105.001 Texas Government Code) |
|
|
|
In 1987, the
leadership of the
Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas
(CLEAT) sought to
have the memorial built.
The
Peace Officers Memorial Foundation (POMF), a 501 (c) (3) charitable
organization, was founded to help raise money for that purpose.

In June of 1998, after convincing the legislature to authorize the
Memorial and after 10 years of arduous fund raising, construction
began.

And on May 10, 1999, law enforcement officers and the families of
officers traveled to Austin for the Memorial dedication.
The Memorial is located on the northeast grounds of the Texas
Capitol, easily accessible from where Congress Avenue and 15th
Street intersect. |
